A man sexually assaulted two sleeping women who were away on a camping trip in Yorkshire.
Sam Colarossi inappropriately touched the two women on the night of August 12, 2020, as they slept outside on the grass due to it being a “hot evening”. The women later woke up to find Colarossi sexually assaulting them.
Colarossi, of The Maltings, Wingate, County Durham, appeared at Durham Crown Court on Friday to be sentenced for three counts of sexual assault. He pleaded guilty to the charges at a previous hearing.

Lewis Kerr, prosecuting, said the two women were in separate tents but had decided to sleep outside. He said: “They slept on a grassed area after consuming a bottle of wine. They fell asleep on the grass.” The court heard that one of the women later woke up to find Colarossi touching her, before realising he was also touching the other woman.
Mr Kerr said that following the sexual assaults the women went to a nearby shower block and called someone to report what had happened. Mr Kerr added that both of the women were “clearly affected by wine” and were sleeping at the time of the assaults.
In a victim impact statement, one of the women said the incident left her unable to sleep in the dark and finds herself “crying spontaneously” due to what happened.
Brian Mark, defending Colarossi, who had no previous convictions, said he has “numerous difficulties” and an “extraordinarily low IQ”. He said: “It’s been a nightmare for the victims, but it’s also been a nightmare for him. It was once in a lifetime conduct and he will have to live with that. It is something which will leave a mark on his life.” The court heard that Colarossi has a learning disability and is on the autistic spectrum.
Judge James Adkin said the women were “fast asleep” when Colarossi sexually assaulted them. He handed him a 24 month community order and ordered him to complete 30 rehabilitation days. A four month curfew between 7pm and 7am was also imposed and the defendant will be on the sex offender’s register for five years.
