Vermonters know how stellar the camping is at state parks across the Green Mountain State, but it is satisfying win recognition from out-of-staters.

A couple of Vermont campgrounds were singled out in the region on the 2022 Best Places to Camp: Top Ten New England list from The Dyrt, a campsite booking website and app. The listing was based on the 4 million reviews and ratings provided by users of the platform.

Grand Isle State Park rated 3rd best New England camping spot

Grand Isle State Park is the most visited state park in Vermont and was also given the distinction of “park of the year,” according to its profile on the Vermont State Parks website. Vermonters know how great it is and, apparently, so do those who choose to camp in New England because it ranked third best on the top 10 New England camping list.

Grand Isle State Park is located on South Hero Island and boasts 4,150 feet of Lake Champlain shoreline. The park has 115 tent or RV camping sites, 36 lean-to sites and 4 cabins.

Restrooms have running water and coin-operated hot showers. A park interpreter leads activities, but you can find your own fun with boating, kayaking, swimming, biking, sand-court volleyball, horseshoes and visiting the nature center with games and entertainment.

Little River State Park rated 8th best New England camping spot

Little River State Park is located on the Waterbury Reservoir in the Mt. Mansfield State Forest and is among the most popular and largest campgrounds in central Vermont.

The park occupies the 8th spot on the 2022 list for best camping locations in New England.

The park has 81 tent or RV sites, 20 lean-tos and five cabins that campers can use. Popular activities include boating, fishing, water skiing, swimming, hiking and biking. Little River has ball fields, beaches and play areas as well as a park interpreter to lead nature-based group activities.

Restrooms have flush toilets, running water and some coin-operated hot showers. Those who want to live closer to the land without access to running water can choose a remote camp site.
