RED BLUFF, Calif. – The Red Bluff City Council has designated a safe place for the homeless to camp without being moved.

At Tuesday’s meeting, the council voted to designate Samuel Ayers Park as a place where the homeless population would go without being moved..

The council members said they have to do something after hearing numerous complaints about the homeless camping at River Park and the downtown area.

Samuel Ayers Park is just north of downtown off Main Street near the Sacramento River.

Council members said they consider this a trial run. City crews have been clearing camps across the city for several months, causing the homeless to move from place to place. The council wants to designate Samuel Ayers park as a place they can stay for the time being. Some people refer to the area at Samuel Ayers park as Dog Island Park.
