If you haven’t read Part 1 of our camping series yet, you can catch up here.
After two trips to Clear Lake Campgrounds and with the help of multiple Amazon orders and a trip to Costco, we felt more than prepared for our next camping trip. Dare I say, we felt even a bit cocky when we pulled into Pine Acres Resort at Blue Lakes. The attendant offered to help us back into our campsite. “No, we got this,” I smiled confidently as I helped David see to back into our space like the pro he’d already proven to be.
David hooked us up with all our new gadgets. We had the water filter, the surge protector, and the blocks for leveling the trailer. He even packed a level to make sure we were precisely level. No more sink water draining off the counter, and the cabinets will stay open! Next came the color-coordinated rug (gray and white just like our trailer), the appropriate camping chairs, and a tablecloth. Yes, I forgot to mention I forgot a tablecloth on our two previous camping trips. We had to endure nature and all of its droppings as we dined. Sure we cleaned it, but there’s nothing like the psychological battle in your mind of what was there before. But not this time! There was nothing we had forgotten. With towels in hand, we eagerly made our way toward the beach. It was the perfect afternoon on the lake. A warm breeze blew off the water, reminding us that we were still in the heat of the day, making the sapphire lake all the more inviting. That’s when our confidence suddenly waned.
To our right was a black and white monster of a motor home. I mean, if I were God and chose to go camping, that’s what I would pick for camping. It was Heaven on wheels. It oozed coolness. I stared. I couldn’t help myself. One entire side of the RV was a slide-out. Yes, the whole side. “You know,” David said, just as mesmerized as I, “I think that motorhome is bigger than our first apartment when we got married.”
“And I bet it’s a lot nicer inside, too,” I pondered. Hidden in the bushes next to the black and white mansion of a motorhome was its neighbor, maybe not as new but definitely equal in girth. Yes, camper envy had shown up once again. I looked back somberly at our twenty-one-foot home on wheels. “Well, there’s a lot less that can go wrong with our trailer,” I smiled. David nodded in agreement. We both knew camper envy had a life of its own and had morphed once again.
Here’s a little of what you can expect at Pine Acres Resort:
There’s camping for everyone at Pine Grove Campground. The motorhome nearest us had a pitched tent next to it for the kids to experience roughing it. If you don’t have a motorhome, camper, or travel trailer, no worries. There are houses and Cabanas you can rent.
For those who love fishing, there’s more than enough room on the dock next to the boat launch if you didn’t bring your boat.
In the center of the campground, it’s party central. Whether you book the roundhouse and host your party or enjoy mingling with your neighbor, there is always a party in the lawn area. With several BBQs and picnic tables, there’s enough room for everyone. Pine Acres is also open for day use, depending upon how busy it is, so if you just want to enjoy it for the day, you can. Call ahead to make sure day use is available.
Blue Lakes is ideal for swimmers and those who like kayaking or canoeing since there is a five mph speed limit on the water. And speaking of water, Blue Lakes consistently offers the coolest, clearest waters in the county. After a swim, relax on the sandy beach and catch up with fellow campers because, as I said, it’s always a party.
Pine Acres is directly off Highway 20, making it the easiest access into Lake County. It’s ideal for hauling a travel trailer or motorhome. If you are local to Lake County, book your nights and commute or take advantage of their wireless and work from home. It’s a great way to end your day and enjoy a less crowded resort.
Two days later, the inevitable came. It was time to leave. Our newest neighbor and owner of another mammoth size motorhome made his way towards us to bid us farewell. “That’s a nice-looking travel trailer,” he smiled. “How long is it?” We’re learning; that seems to be one of the most common questions in the RV camping world. I’ll admit, it has taken me a little while to get used to it.
“It’s twenty-one feet,” I reply, realizing how dwarfed we are next to his motorhome, not to mention its twelve-foot slide out.
“That’s a great size,” he affirmed. You can take that thing anywhere,” his eyes lit up. Did I see a bit of envy? “I mean, this is great,” he gestured towards his motorhome, but I can’t take it anywhere I want,” he smiled.
“Yeah, that’s one of the reasons why we bought it. It has high clearance, so we can haul it into all our favorite spots,” I affirmed.
“You made the right decision. You won’t regret it!” He waved before leaving. I smiled; I couldn’t help it. I walked toward our camper with a bit of a swagger. Now that I think about it, yeah, we made the right decision.
