Falling tree kills 2 people from Minnesota camping in Price County

PHILLIPS – Two people from Minnesota are dead after a tree fell on them Sunday while they were camping along the north fork of the Flambeau River in Price County, according to the Sheriff’s Office.

The victims were identified as Sandy Michael Langseth II, 39, and April Sheldahl, 45, of White Bear Lake Township in the Twin Cities area. The two were seated at a picnic table when they were hit by the tree, the Price County Sheriff’s Office said. A third person was at the table and uninjured. A fourth person also at the campsite was not injured.

Two people fishing nearby assisted the campers, the sheriff’s office said. Those witnesses noticed “the wind pick up for about 10 minutes when they heard a tree fall along the north bank of the river,” the statement said.

Emergency responders declared the couple dead at the scene.
