PERRY, Mo. (WGEM) – There is now some extra time left for anyone planning on camping in the Mark Twain Lake area.

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers at Mark Twain Lake announced that they are extending the camping season in the Ray Behrens Campground.

The extension applies to sites 48-116 in Little Bluestem and sites 117-157 in Cedar Ridge.

Natural resource specialist Alex Threlkeld with the USACE said the extension comes on the heels of a busy camping season.

” Camping has been very good. It’s been very busy. Utilization has been pretty high throughout the camping season. A little slow to start with the cool weather, but as soon as the weather warmed up the campers came,” said Threlkeld.

He said the demand will likely remain high for the next several weeks, due in part to the special Halloween Walk upcoming next month.

“We decided to extend the camping through our Halloween Walk special event. That’s an event which occurs in our Indian Creek Campground and puts a high demand on our campsites during that week and that weekend,” said Threlkeld.

The Halloween Walk will take place October 21st and 22nd.

Tickets are $5 per car and can be purchased from September 29th through October 14th.

The camping extension lasts through October 24th.
