A local has divided residents after complaining about people setting up tents on a popular beach in one of Sydney‘s ritziest suburbs.
The woman moaned about holidaymakers setting up tents along the foreshore at Balmoral Beach on Monday.
She claimed up to 100 people had camped overnight and that someone had gone to the toilet in a baseball cap because the nearby facilities had been closed.
She immediately divided opinions after posting photos of the campers and venting her frustration in a Facebook post.

‘To our community at Mosman,’ she wrote.
‘There are very divided views about illegal camping on Balmoral Beach.
‘While we all love community and family gatherings this time of year, it’s actually not a campground.
‘The toilet/wash rooms are closed to public over night so when having a party of 60-100 people sleeping on the beach and park, one can only assume that the party may need to toilet overnight.
‘I did walk past a base ball cap full of faeces which was in the car park. Respectfully. This is not a camp ground.’
She made a follow-up post a day later showing the tents were still up.
‘Where is the ranger when needed. A large party of over 60+ people camping overnight,’ she wrote.
‘Second night in a row. Just curious, is Balmoral a Public beach but not a public camp ground??’
Social media users were quick to jump in and defend the people staying in the tents.
‘Probably a group of Sydneysiders who live out west in the heat, work their arses off in tough low paying jobs, who need some respite and pleasure in their lives,’ one wrote.
‘It’s good for precious Mosmanites to get a taste of the real world for a change. Everyone deserves a turn on the waterfront.

‘Share and share alike people! Christmas is a religious holiday so let’s see a bit of Christianity- in keeping with the spirit of the season.’
Another person added: ‘Leave them alone. My family lived in tents nearby during the Great Depression in the 1930s!
‘Sydney is for everyone to share and enjoy. Not just the whinging affluent – have a look at the Parking ticket revenue figures. Shame on you!’
Some threw their support behind the woman saying the holidaymakers were in the wrong.
‘Many tents have been pitched inside fenced areas designed to protect the roots of hundred year old Morton By fig trees. Where are the rangers?’ one wrote.
The grumpy woman slammed the people in the tents but council confirmed they did not stay the night
A Mosman Council spokeswoman said the holidaymakers did not appear to have stayed in the tents overnight and packed up and left at the end of the day.
‘Council has confirmed the shelters were set up in the early hours of the morning,’ she said.
‘NSW Police are carrying out overnight patrols of the area and council rangers are maintaining a heightened presence across Mosman beaches.’
