A smaller Bonnaroo in 2022? Camping area shrinks, entrance removed

The return of Bonnaroo is less than a week away, and it appears that attendees can look forward to a roomier ‘Roo.

Organizers of the four-day music and camping festival in Manchester, Tennessee released this year’s festival map on Thursday. Most of its stages and attractions are still in their old familiar spots, but the campground area is significantly smaller than usual.

There has traditionally been a large section of campgrounds on the Northeast corner of the site before reaching the East Tollbooth. That area is completely absent from this year’s map — but you can see where it would normally be on the legend in the bottom right.

Additionally, a few plots at the northernmost part of the map have also been axed.

Obviously, this isn’t the best sign for Bonnaroo’s 2022 ticket sales. The festival has routinely been a quick sellout in recent years — including its canceled 2020 and 2021 editions — but tickets remain available this year.

On the other hand, it could mean an especially comfy experience for those who show up. When sales hit a record low in 2016, attendees raved about having better spots for performances, quicker lines and shorter walks back to their camp.

But on yet another hand (this is a three-hand scenario, OK?) it looks like some attendees will have to take a longer route to and from the concert area (known as “Centeroo”).

Along with the map, Bonnaroo confirmed Thursday that it will have just one entrance from the campgrounds to the stages, instead of the traditional two.

Fans are less than thrilled, and promptly aired their grievances towards Bonnaroo’s Twitter account.
