A magical weekend as Carnew Emmets go camping crazy!

Carnew Emmets GAA Club became a fun-filled campsite on Saturday and Sunday last weekend when the club held their Cool Camping fundraiser that brought close to 40 families to the GAA grounds to pitch their tents and enjoy a day of fun, games and the best things the community can provide.

hortly after noon Mark Collins became the first man to erect a tent and he was quickly followed by dozens more families as the top pitch became a sea of canvass.

It wasn’t just camping on offer. There were bruising football games, a water slide, Fittest Family, tasty burgers, a disco, traditional music and singing and roasting of marshmallows around the campfire.

John and Laura Kavanagh and their capable children Jack, Harry and Sophie were crowned the Fittest Family winners on the day, and they also came up trumps in the ‘Best Big Tent’ competition which was judged ruthlessly by camping expert James ‘Bear’ Doran.

Sleep came easier to some than others when the lights went out but everyone was still all smiles when Padhraic Roberts threw the first sausages and rashers on the barbecue.
